There’s lots of redistricting action on tap today in Louisiana, where there are four plans scheduled to be considered–three in the state House and one in the state Senate.
The Times-Picayune notes that Gov. Bobby Jindal "favors two north-south congressional districts that run from the Arkansas border into south Louisiana with Monroe anchoring the eastern district and Shreveport the western."
The Shreveport TImes last week admitted to liking "the visual appeal, the horizontal logic of a congressional district that stretches the length of Interstate 20 across the breadth of north Louisiana."
The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report reports that the Senate plan "is favored by local business interests and keeps the traditional nine-parish area mostly intact, while incorporating new outlying areas such as Assumption and St. John the Baptist in what is now the 6th Congressional District."
Meanwhile, coastal lawmakers are worried about what happens to Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, currently situated in Rep. Jeff Landry’s 3rd District. "In every piece of legislation pending action on the floors," writes Jeremy Alford, "the Terrebonne-Lafourche region has served as a deal maker and breaker."
